Multifunctional spaces – Home Office

Throughout the pandemic, we all saw how working from home transformed the way we all work. Many companies have opted for a flexible approach to work, half the week WFH and half the week in the office. Our painters and decorators in London have been asked to redesign and redecorate traditional domestic areas such as garages, conservatories and box rooms into home offices by many different clients in 2022 and we have come up with a few idea below on how to maximise these spaces:

• Functional & Practical – While it may be appealing to make your home office aesthetic, it is important to keep it simple, contemporary and fresh. Ensure everything in your home office has a purpose and is not overkill. This will elevate the look, and simultaneously ensure you are not disturbed and keep productivity levels at a high. Light neutral tones are always a great option for a room you will spend a lot of time in. Maybe include some inspirational quotes on the wall to keep you motivated through the difficult moments.
• Eco-Friendly – Manipulate natural light, as this will help decrease your energy usage. At the same time, this will also help to provide a clear and welcoming space. Another tip would be to invest in energy efficient lighting which lasts much longer than traditional bulbs. You can also add wood furniture and plants which will reduce your stress levels and purify the air at the same time.
• Simple and Classic – You can never go wrong with a classic look. Ideally, we would recommend leathers, natural woods and stone and these touches will help uplift your home office. Your furniture should be the central point of the office which grasps the attention and eye. This classic look will ensure your home office looks stylish and sophisticated. Pattern Play

Pattern play has been extremely popular amongst customers so far in 2022 and it is a great testament to our increased acceptance of diversity. Retro styles as seen in the 60’s ad 70’s have really seen a resurgence, with yellow, green and grey particularly popular colours for the season. Bold patterns in small spaces really help to keep your home vibrant, unique and full of energy. When choosing your patterns, we recommend starting with a solid colour strategy. Be conscious of how a room will impact the adjoining rooms and how dominant certain colours can be. Consider the purpose of the room. Is it a lounge room, or a dining room? For lounge areas, we recommend relaxed materials such as hand-blocked cottons, linens and light-weight materials. Whereas, if it is a formal room, then stick to velvets, silks and more lavish designs. Do not overthink your art. Art can continually find a place even in a pattern-heavy room. Play around by layering the art with your chosen designs. We have found that art in a colour palette that is across from the feature wall tends to stand out more. Regardless of your walls being shrouded in vibrant textiles or coated with picture-perfect shades of white, there is room for all to establish pattern play which creates exciting and layered spaces. Remember, that patterns enable you to incorporate your individual inclinations, so if you like what you see, go for it.
